Rugby
Girls Rugby: Let Her Play Programme
In February we had Black Fern, Grace Brooker, come in to take any interested girls through the skills required for rugby. It was a 6 week programme run on site during lunch time.
It was awesome to see so many interested players. All the players listened to the tips and tricks that Grace has picked up over her years of playing, and putting them into practice during the drills.

Volleyball
Senior Girls B Volleyball Team
In term one we had a mix of junior and senior girls playing in the Senior B team. The girls had lots of fun together, especially on our trips to other schools. There was great singing and hilarity on our trips in the van and some awesome photo shoots at each venue we visited... oh, and some great volleyball too!
Team members were: Jurmaine Calpo,
Noeline Lausifo, Gladdys Toailoa, Falute Elia, Hamida Ghazzidada, Alexsandra Lausifo, Dormay Lausifo, Apphia Rabuku, and
Rowina Palu
Congratulations to: Noelene Laufiso for Most Valuable Player and to Gladdys Toailoa for Most Improved Player.
Junior Girls Volleyball Team
Our junior girls’ team have had a great season this year. Nearly all the girls (Year 9 and 10) were new to tournament volleyball and they have had to work hard to develop their skills and strategies for the game.
Senior Girls A Volleyball Team
This year, the Linwood College senior girls volleyball team played in premier division 2. It was a huge step up for them as their division ranked higher unlike last year. This means that they played tougher teams and it was great to see them raise their standard of play and determination to do well.
It was going to be a promising year for the team but Covid-19 struck after 6 games and the tournament in the last week of March got cancelled. It was a good thing that our coach, Paul Hoffman, runs a volleyball club that plays every Monday during winter, and most of the players joined the club's senior B women's team. The Linwood College players were the youngest in the club and it was a great experience for them.
In term 4, the seniors insisted on playing to seize the year even though they didn’t have a coach, but thanks to Mr Hoffman for the support and for pushing the girls to give their best, and Jade for organising.
We were so proud of the girls for managing themselves. They were well headed by their captain, Patricia Pangilinan, who was also awarded as the Most Valuable Player this year and the Most Improved Player award went to Kristeen Verde.
Junior Boys Volleyball
Written by coach Scott Kyle
This year I had the privilege of coaching the junior volleyball boys, with help from Sea and Mr Hoffman. They were a great bunch of boys who always approached the game in a positive manner. The team was always self-motivated and showed huge improvement week to week. This was a very useful attribute as they were an inexperienced team with only one player in the team who had played before and were playing in division 1 against all the top teams in Canterbury.
Some highlights for the team were almost beating the 2nd best team in Canterbury, Shirley Boys', and being one point off winning a set against the Canterbury champs, Burnside. Overall it was a great season for the boys that they all should be proud of.

Junior Football
Our junior football team had an exciting season. We had a phenomenal turn out of both boys and girls and our numbers grew throughout the season. We did not win many games initially but by the end of the season we won 3 out of our last 3 games - a fantastic end to the season.
Milly Musset was our Most Improved Player and Daniel Sunawar our Most Valuable Player.
Basketball
Year 7 and 8 Basketball
This year our Year 7/8 basketball team played every Tuesday night at Cowles Stadium during terms 2 and 3.
They were an amazing team of young men and the future of Linwood College Basketball. They represented our school with great ability and sportsmanship. Our team only lost one game all season and were placed in the finals. Linwood College Year 7/8 won so ended up being the division winners. Tino pai tamariki!
Our team consisted of the following players -

JZ Arellano
Bryce Delos Reyes
