Language Features
In 8R this year we have been learning about language features, to be able to identify them and use them in our written work. Here are some examples of:
Crazy Collective Noun Sentences
A troop of Dryads fly by a gang of elks fishing for a swarm of eels in the Avon River. Then they see a marketing campaign of millennials looking for a pod of dolphins diving deep.
A boat of seals fished for a family of sardines when suddenly they were attacked by a murder of crows. Thankfully their friends, which were a huddle of walruses, came to save the day.
A pandemonium of parrots squawked at the flamboyance of flamingos while chasing the maelstrom of salamanders.
A litter of pups giggled at a gaggle of geese and a herd of dinosaurs that had a culture of bacteria.
Alliteration
The extraterrestrial extrovert expected to exit the extraordinary examination.
O rato roeu a roupa do rei de roma.
Adam the ant aggressively attacked all the anteaters and astonishingly ate them all.
The cuddly kitten curled on the comfy kitchen cupboard.
Queen Elizabeth ll quickly questions the quality of the quest.
Celebration of Learning
At the end of term 3 students organised and lead the afternoon of celebration. Teachers were available to discuss students learning and achievements. It was a great afternoon and many students showcased their work to their family.
Year 7 and 8 are Tough Kids
On Wednesday 18 November, 35 Year 7 and 8 students headed to South New Brighton Domain for the annual MASH Tough Kids Challenge. The students had to climb over and under obstacles, wade through waist high estuary water, and get blasted by various hoses. One of the highlights that the students loved was a gigantic slip 'n' slide with foam bubbles which were squirted into the air to make it look like it was snowing.
At the end of the day, all the students finished the challenge but particular mention goes to Avi Chand from 7E and Dollar Fa'amausili from 7C who were the first female and male students from Linwood College to cross the finish line.
Year 8 Camp at Waipara Adventure Centre
Our Year 8 Tāhuhu ākonga thoroughly enjoyed heading away on camp in week 8 of Term 4. The weather wasn't overly kind to us, however we all had a blast and made the most of the awesome activities they had on offer. Some of our favourites were, kayaking, air rifles, Faulty Towers, Leap of Faith and the water slide. The camp food was next level delicious and we loved going up for seconds! A massive thank you to the kaiako and ākonga for making this such a successful camp and one that will hold plenty of special memories for us all.
