English Language Learners

ELL at Linwood College

Mrs Costeira joined Mrs Martins, Ms Noreen and Mr Ruiz in the ELL department this year. They are a dream team!

Doing “centres” in ELL is one of Mrs Costeira’s favorite things. It’s a fun way to learn and practice our language skills without feeling like we are doing work.

In ELL class we improve our English and strengthen our friendships.

Even in small group classes we maintain a high level of interaction and participation by using interactive online learning games like Quizlet Live, Kahoot and Blooket.

Muffins, cupcakes and scones! Scones are a staple treat for Kiwis and we wanted to know why. As a fun activity to close the year, our senior ELL students studied the similarities and differences of muffins, cupcakes and scones and decided on their favourite.

The Year 7 English Language Learning students started the new school year off on the right foot. They created a colourful ‘All About Me’ bunting - sharing information about what is important to them and showing off their listening, speaking, writing and presenting skills. Great work!

ELL students, under the able leadership of Mrs Archana Martins, initiated, planned and performed at an event to celebrate important dates on the calendars of our diverse English Language Learners: Easter, Ramadan and Holi.

The students dazzled with their vibrant and colourful traditional dress and had maximum audience participation with plenty of singing, clapping and cheering them on.

Some of our Filipino students performed at the public library in Eastgate on May 21st for Music Month. The dance they performed is named the "Maglalatik", or dance of the Latikmaker.
