House Events

What an exciting and interesting year 2021 was. We had a variety of challenges this year starting with Linwood College Fear Factor. The House Leaders had to eat chocolate covered onions, find worms in a muddy plate (chocolate mousse), and drink a delicious concoction, which was anything but delicious. With that we finished term 1 with our House tabloids.

Term 2 saw our annual netball event with once again the staff reigning supreme - there is always next year for the students to make a come back. Another term 2 highlight was the spelling bee, and wow we have some very talented spellers.

Term 3 saw our planned events change due to our lockdown and level 2 restrictions. This then gave us an opportunity to get creative and we had a house quiz.

During all these events different houses were winning and coming second in all of the events which lead to the points being very close; in the end only 10 points separated first and second.

Overall our 2021 house champions of Linwood College is Kākāriki House! A big well done to them and all ākonga who participated and had fun.

Tabloid Sports

On the last day of term 1 we held our fabulous tabloid sports afternoon. There were lots of fun activities to join in on and our students and staff got into the spirit by wearing their house colours.

It was a great event, and the overall placings were

1st - Kākāriki

2nd -  Karaka

3rd - Kōwhai

4th - Waiporoporo.

Fear Factor LCŌ

Our first house event this year was an event for our house leaders and it was pretty gruesome.

Our house leaders stepped up proudly for their houses. The event consisted of eating a chocolate-dipped onion, this had to be consumed before the next contestants could start.

Round two was a delicious smoothie made with spinach, tuna, garlic, mustard, grapefruit juice and a few other delicacies. This was followed by ‘find the worms’ (sour lolly) in a mud puddle (chocolate pudding) using only their mouth.

When all three of these challenges were finished they had to work together as a team to get the banana to the monkey using only their feet.

Kōwhai won this event coming in first, followed by a closely placed Waiporoporo in second. Third was Karaka, with Kākāriki coming in fourth.

Kōwhai for the win, 3 years in a row. What an awesome week of netball where every house competed against the others to find the ultimate winner.

In the big finale, Kōwhai played the staff team. We had a fantastic turnout of players for both teams and supporters who helped encourage the staff team to a victory of 12-4.

A massive thank you to the students for coming along every lunchtime and displaying the best of their sporting abilities and their awesome fair play. In addition, thanks to the staff, refs, and the students who turned up to show support for the players on the court. And lastly, a big thank you to the House Coordinators for organising this event.

The week was filled with an adapted game, team spirit, excitement and good sportsmanship which was evident throughout the school for this event!

End Of Term Celebration Day

On the second to last day of school, the juniors had an awesome morning of tabliod sports. In the afternoon our lovely 24/7 Youth Workers ran a festival for all to enjoy. There was a dunk the teacher challenge, zorbs, playstation, water slide, lolly scramble, bungy run, mini golf, volleyball, movie, candy floss and sausage sizzle.
